Automotive Maintenance (MF) Free Lead Acid Batterie
Introduction
MF batteries are a type of batteries with no need to add electrolyte or distilled water during normal use, or to recharge it after a period of storage. Compared with ordinary batteries, they are much easier for daily use and require little maintenance.   The internal electrode and gas collecting/exhausting system are specially designed to reduce self discharge and water loss, as well as the necessity of filling electrolyte or water. However, MF batteries still require proper installation, use and maintenance to extend their service time.
Configuration
Installation Guidance
  1. Do not install batteries with broken positive or negative pole(s).
  2. Turn off all electrical equipments of the vehicle before installation.
  3. Install the battery upside up. Otherwise the electrolyte may flow out.
  4. Check and clean the battery holder to avoid cracking of the case bottom.
  5. Do not install the battery whose case is broken or inflated or where acid leaks.
  6. Check the indicator (Magic Eye) to make sure the tatus is green (which means normal).
  7. Follow the correct order during installation. That is, first connect the positive pole and then the negative pole.
  8. Follow the correct order during uninstallation. That is, first disconnect the negative pole and then the positive pole.

  1. Ensure that the poles are correctly and firmly connected, and that they are not in short circuit by any metal tool or wire.

    Warning :
reverse connection may damage the battery as well as other electrical equipments. Short circuit may melt the poles or cause fire in the worst case.
  2. Check and remove any oxide or rust from the battery poles and clamps before connection. If necessary, lubricate with grease or Vaseline after installation is completed.
Usage Guidance
  1. The battery should be stored in a clean and dry ventilated place without direct exposure to the sun and avoid prolonged storage at the temperatures either above 35°C or below 0°C. Usually a battery’s idling time should not
exceed 8 months. If the battery has been stored for long time or its open circuit voltage is below 12.60V, it should be recharged before use. During the storage period, the battery should be recharged once every 3 months
and completely discharged once every 6 months.
  2. Keep the case of the battery clean. Remove dust and dirt from the battery cover to reduce self discharge.
  3. Check the indicator once every 3 months. Different colors represent different battery status.
Green: Normal status with adequate power, can be used to start the vehicle.

White: Deficit in power, to be recharged.
    Red:
Lack of electrolyte or failed, to be replaced.
  1. Routinely check whether the wires are solidly connected to the poles or not.
  2. Routinely check the voltage of the regulator. The recharge voltage should be limited strictly within 13.3V - 14.4V. Otherwise it may damage the battery.
  3. Prolonged large-current discharge will greatly damage the internal structure of the battery. Therefore it is recommended that each starting attempt shall not exceed 5 seconds. If you have to re-try, the interval between two attempts should be 10 to 15 seconds.
  4. Try not to completely discharge the battery in a cold climate to avoid freezing of the electrolyte.
  5. When the open circuit voltage is too low or starting performance decreases a lot or the lights get dimmer, the battery should be promptly recharged outside the vehicle. Please refer to the Maintenance guidance part for details.
  6. Do not use a power-deficit battery or idle such a battery for long time.
Maintenance Guidance
  1. Routinely check whether the battery mounting is loosened, whether there is any crack, bump or greaseon the battery case, and whether there is acid or rust on the poles.
  2. Although the maintenance-free battery generates a tiny amount of acid mist and flammable gases during the charge process. Keep the battery away from heat, fire and keep the ambience well-ventilated.
  3. Before recharging the battery which is unmounted from the vehicle, please turn off all electrical equipments firstly.
    Warning:
beware of the correct disconnection order from
    the battery.
  4. Before recharging the battery outside the car, please make sure that “ + “ and “-” poles are properly connected to the recharger. Reverse connection may greatly damage the battery.

  1. When not using the battery, take it off from the car and charge it so as to prolong its use life. Batterie should be stored in clean, dry, draught room with 5ºC-35ºC. Surface of batteries and pole pillar should be kept clean.
  2. Recharge can be carried out at normal temperatures. 1/10 of the capacity is recommended as the charge current, for example: 8A for MF80Ah. The recharge time is generally 6 to 12 hours. Pay attention to the battery temperature. Suspend the recharge process if the temperature exceeds 45°C, and resume only after it drops below 45°C.
Safety Rules and Cautions
  1. Keep the battery out of children’s reach.
  2. The battery will generate flammable gases during recharge process. To avoid explosion, keep it at a well ventilated place and away from heat and fire
  3. Batterie, when recharged in serial connection, are at a high voltage. To avoid electric shocks, please be extra careful when you have to touch the wires or connection poles.
  4. The battery should be stored at a dry clean and ventilated place, at the temperature above 35ºC or 0ºC and should not be exposed directly to the sun.
  5. The storage time of the MF battery should not exceed six months. Please recharge the battery before use if it is already in storage for over six months.

  1. Do not try to open the lid to add any type of liquid, it may damage the battery.\
  2. If in any case the acid has splashed onto the skin or clothes, wash immediately with plenty of water (or soap water). If it gets into eyes, wash with water and consult a
    doctor as soon as possible.
  3. Disposal of MF batteries
Do not dispose of scraped batteries, which are reusable, like common household wastes. Improper dismantling may pollute the environment. The battery should be sent to the disposal of a qualified local recycling organization.
